The black base is made of reprocessed polypropylene, recycle code 5. Reprocessed/recycled polypropylene may have an odor but is considered harmless. Placing crumpled newspaper, natural charcoal, or baking soda inside the tote are ways to help remove the odor. Was this Answer Helpful ?Roll newspaper up like a log. Rubber band or tie with twine. Soak log/newspaper under water. No need to soak completely. Place inside, close lid over night. Bam! No more smell. Works at removing embedded smells in coolers or microwave smells.
