Can it be rigged to be plugged in?

Yes. Buy the Project Source live-end power feed with cord and switch (comes in black or white) and remove the light fixtures end piece, plug in the live-end power feed and tighten the set screw. You're done.

I am about to do this so I HOPE I am not wrong! Lowes sells this: Project Source Linear Mixed Material Live End Power Feed Item # 650146 This plugs into an end of the track light (only one of the two track ends will work -- see grounding directions) and you attach a typical 3-wire electric cord to it. You could cut off the end of an extension cord, strip the wires, and insert these. Or you could buy a roll of 3-wire wire from Lowes, which I just did.

Yes it can. The way you install it via a plug is disconnecting the end piece and attaching the plug there as the new end piece. It fits in just like an extension would - providing power the same way. With the plug, you no longer need the box piece pictured. Just make sure the plug you have is rated to handle the wattage of all your bulbs.

this unit is constructed to be wired to a ceiling or wall box. This style of track lighting builds off an electrical box where the electrical connection for the track goes.

this unit is made to be hard wired into a light switch. The large white block you see in the picture covers the connector plate that is wired to your existing or new ceiling or wall wiring. I suppose anything is possible, but it is not designed for it.
