The old ones might have held more weight. I just bought ten and two of the lids broke when stacking EMPTY YES EMPTY. I was shocked and outraged. I checked all my lids carefully for flaws. This batch has lids too tight and too thin. Never had this problem with anyone else's version of these. I love Lowes but this is unacceptable. I pack these and forget them. I stack 4 high would love to go to eight. Guess what they are all coming back to you and I am goin to the other stores. I come out of my way specifically to buy from you because these were at a good price. Don't be greedy. I buy more and more every year but if this is how they are now, less business at your store. Make them stronger than your competition. Trust me you will be and do better. DEC 1 2019. DO NOT BUY THESE NOW DEFECTIVE CHEAP INSTANT TRASH.

All I can tell you is how I use the Commander 27-Gallon. I have firewood in one tote and axes' saws, etc. in the other tote. I stack them during storage and in the back of my truck tied down. I don't think I would put more than 50lbs in each tote nor stack more than 4 totes.
