what is the composition of the container? it smells funny,will that smell contaminate collectors coins?

The black base is made of reprocessed polypropylene, recycle code 5. Reprocessed/recycled polypropylene may have an odor but is considered harmless. Placing crumpled newspaper, natural charcoal, or baking soda inside the tote are ways to help remove the odor.
