Does sediment filter go before or after well pump?

It should be put on after the water pump, never in the suction line side of the water pump. Also recommend that if you have a separate pressure storage tank after the water pump, you put this unit before that storage tank. Probably should not be put on the line coming from the hot water as very hot water might melt the plastic "stuff" in this unit -- maybe the bowl, the internal plastics, the "O" ring, and maybe even the polyester screen might not be hot water capable. This latter sentence is just my opinion, though.
