My float switch plugs into the top of pump with a water tight plug like the one in the picture. How do you put it on

Hi Skeeter, Thank you for your recent inquiry with Lowe's. You will need to disable the old float switch that is attached to your pump before installing this float switch. This will require use of the included shunt plug to allow the power to be diverted to the main power cord. This is all covered in the installation instructions included with this float switch, If you have any further questions please contact our customer support team at 800-346-7611

Are you sure it plugs in there? Most piggy-back tethers (included this one pictured) are just held IN PLACE by the screws on top of pump. Then plug into back of the PUMP's plug at the wall socket. (At least that's how both of mine work -- sorry if I'm misleading you.)
