Was this Answer Helpful ?It covers the ground is what stops weeds from growing And that cover has to be "at least 2 inches" to have any effect in doing that (even that is iffey if it will) I like 3 inch coverage This brand of mulch has a finer grind of wood mulch in it that does not float away with rain as a lot of them do We have had a few days of rain that has made Lake Maineville show its self in our backyard and the mulch stayed put.

Was this Answer Helpful ?Any product that does not have seeds of unwanted plants in the contents can be a week barrier simply by smothering the new plants that try to grow. Likewise, if you put enough bare mulch (or even wet newspaper as an example) on your lawn, you can kill the grass, as well as prevent weeds from growing.
