How short can you make the cord?

You can easily retract all of the cord into the base, and have none exposed. There is a set screw to loosen, and then adjust the length and then re-tighten.
Was this Answer Helpful ?the cord is probably about 3ft long, and it's not intended to be cut shorter... you coil up the excess into the recessed fixture above the base. you could certainly make it hang down 6" and maybe less but you need to be able to reach into the can to screw in the connecting parts

Was this Answer Helpful ?You can make it as short as you want...all the excess cord goes behind the cover in the old can light :)) To answer your question about flush mount, no you cannot, but you can pull the cord all the way through until the base of the light touches the ferrel on the top cover. You would only have a few inches plus the whatever glass fixture you decide to go with...I hope this helps :)) Good Luck!!
