Explain the connection process of individual lights to the low voltage wire.

The lights connect to the power line via vampire taps. Its a screw on clamp that drives the sharp prongs into each or the paired wires. The question would be gauge of wire in your old system, this system the taps are difficult to use with the included wire, let alone a larger gauge.

Installation is far easier then it use to be with the old style push and snap connectors. The new style is a screw together style and takes a lot less time to connect, even to the old type of wiring.

Hello and Thank You for your question. The connection process of the individual lights is simple and safe due to the 12volt system. Ok, usually I would always recommend replacing any old wire: 1) You never understand if the wire has breaks, or tears in it especially if the wire is buried under ground. 2) Wire underground will tend to break down faster than if the wire is on top of the ground and covered with landscaping material. Note: it is not necessary to bury Low Voltage Cable. 3) New cable is easier to handle and work with. Buried cable may be twisted etc... OK, the fixtures you will be buying at Lowes all come with Fixture Connectors. No Tools are required to connect the lights to the low voltage cable. Each fixture comes with instructions on how to connect them. Basically your existing wire fits into the fixture connector. You want to make sure the cable is straight and not twisted or crooked. There are two copper teeth inside the connector that line up with the two strands of wire on the Low Voltage Cable coming from the Transformer. Low Voltage Cable is very similar to speaker wire. It has two copper strands that are inside an insulated jacket. Once the Low Voltage Cable is placed into the fixture connector, you simply twist the top of the connector clockwise. This screws the top of the connector down over top of the Low Voltage Cable until two copper teeth or pins actually pierce both sides of the cable. If the wire and the two teeth are aligned properly then you will have a successful connection. If the power is already turned on, and the fixture already has its bulb installed, then you will see the fixture light up.
