What does the switch by the battery do?


It switches the light on or off in the middle setting, switched to the left is the 6 hour setting and switched to the right is what I like to refer to as the "on till the battery runs out" setting. I have found in the summer time here in Texas in the "on till the battery runs out" setting that some times they may stay on till 2:00 or 3:00 AM.
