Specifications state minimum flow rate of 51 gph. Does that mean most of the ports have to be used? Only shuts off to 6+gph each.

Each port can average 30 gph at 50psi. You can use as few as 1 to 2 port and it will work fine. The more ports you use at one time the less gph you get per port.
