read the instructions, it waters at a MINIMUM of every hour. You might have thought it as going to water every day (which it will do if you set it correctly).

Have not had any issues with it not turning off.

Sounds like the connection wires are crossed. When the system loses power it will also default to open mode. I would check electric connects and power.
