Can this bulb hang upside down?

I do not know what your "other bulb" is, but heat output is related to wattage. This replaces an 60 watt incandescent bulb. Incandescent bulbs are only about 2.1% efficient meaning the rest of the wattage is turned into heat. That means a 60 watt incandescent bulb turns out more than 58 watts in heat. This LED bulb uses only 8.5 watts of power. They emit only 4% as much heat as a typical incandescent bulb. Most of that heat comes from the base of the bulb where the electronics are located to convert household 120 V AC power into the lower voltage DC electricity that the LED operates on. That base can reach 107 degrees which can feel hot, but is a lot cooler than the 327 degrees a halogen bulb can reach, or even the 167 degrees of a CFL light (source: CNET). But the bottom line is, don't worry about the heat.

Was this Answer Helpful ?Yes, I am using one now in a hanging light.
Was this Answer Helpful ?This bulb can hang in any direction.
Was this Answer Helpful ?Yes, you can. The only part that gets warm is the base of the bulb. No matter the position, the base of the bulb gets pretty warm, it's the heat sink for the bulb. It's normal with LEDs. And the base doesn't get hotter than an incandescent bulb.
