Our contractor just applied this on our hardie board. It came out a gloppy mess. He tells us it's difficult to apply. What should it look like>

it is harder than water base caulk where you use a WATER rag to keep it not so gloppy looking ... keeping a clean MINERAL SPIRIT rag will do the same. The directions will say that also.
