Since light doesn't turn on in daylight, would the first light turning on prevent the next light in the stairs from turning on?

Not typically, unless you have it shining directly on the motion sensor of the next light. If you want them across from each other, I would recommend staggering them slightly. If they are on the same wall, it is not a problem at all. Thank you, Customer Service.
