Can I use this water based Polycrylic on top of Minwax oil based stain?


After 24 hours, apply 2 coats of de-waxed shellac (Zinsser UniversalSealCoat) over the stain. Then the Poly won't turn the mahogany pigment to brown.

Hello, yes. You can apply our Polycrylic over our all but one of our Wood Finish oil-based stains. Red Mahogany is the only stain color we do not recommend it for use over. Regards, Minwax Customer Service
