Was this Answer Helpful ?You are asking about the polyshades. So Minwax person please answer again. Per the instructions if previously stained, NOT LACQUER or SHELLAC then you can cleaned really well and put over the existing stain. No sanding necessary. Be aware that the previous stain will affect the color somewhat
Was this Answer Helpful ?Hello. For starters, the wood needs to be bare, as our Wood Finish Stain is designed to completely penetrate into bare wood. Remove any existing coating. Sand the wood in the direction of the grain, first using medium grade sandpaper (#120) and working your way to fine-grade (#220). Remove all sanding dust before staining. Pre-treat soft or porous woods such as pine, maple, alder and birch with our Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner. This will help the wood evenly absorb stain color. Apply our Wood Finish Stain within two hours of pre-treatment. Stir our Wood Finish Stain thoroughly before and occasionally during use. Test the stain on a hidden area to verify desired color. To lighten any color, add our Wood Finish 209 Natural to the mixture. You are now ready to stain. Regards, Minwax Customer Service
