The rack for wood seems unstable and not sturdy. Am I able to use my own grate from my fireplace to put the wood on while using the fire pit?

The log rack is made from a large diameter steel rod and should support a fair amount of wood. In this model sold at Lowe's, there is also a pan that can rest on the bottom to collect ash and coals. It can then also rest in another position on top of the wood grate so charcoal can be used for grilling. Wood should not be placed in that pan.
