How far does the plug reach away from the unit?

Not far at all. Like 3 inches coming out of the case. Not sure what is with that design. You need an outdoor extension. I bought all 3 modules, and 2 15 foot outdoor extension cords. (1 for the grill - has lights) I wired it inside the unit and fed the wire through the grab handle on the side to the other module's grab handle, and then finally through the sink module which is closest to my outlet.
