how does mailman insert new mail? does he need a key in order for box to be locked after mail enters?

The mailman will insert mail thru the incoming mail bin which does not require a key. There is a handle above the U.S. Mail stamp that pulls down. The mail will then fall down into the locked compartment which is only accessible with a key.
