When locking the storm door with this handle set, the lock is so close to the door trim that I cant get my hand in to turn. Why is it set so close??

We are sorry that is happening. On most openings, there is enough room to turn the inside lock knob. What may be happening is the entry door may be using a thicker door jamb or the brick mold may be set back more than the standard 3/8”. If any shimming was done on the hinge side of the storm door, remove the shim and install it to the latch side. If needed our Customer Care Team can work directly with you regarding this situation.
