What is the smallest width I can cut off on a rip cut?

Nothing less then an inch. However, there is a possible solution. Simply clamp a straight edge across your door several inches (or a foot) away and parallel to where you're making the cut and extend your saw to the desired cut line.Make sure your door is clamped down as well. I've found that setting the guide a comfortable distance away from the cut of your saw provides more stability, which equates to a better cut. Double check the depth of your blade after attaching the straight edge and lower it accordingly.

Rip the board and door using the board as the guide. Make sure your material and door are clamped or even screwed down solid. Also the edge cut tends to float because the guide needs something to rest on. So extend the guide maybe a foot past the door on both the beginning and end.
