Just purchased the 24v Max circular saw. Noticed it has a locking knob & provisions for an edge guide but does not have one included in the kit. Why?

Not every user of the saw needs or wants an edge guide. I for one think they are a waste and don't use them. In addition the visibility of the guide on the saw make it easy to see where you are cutting and so stay on the line with the edge guide. In addition, I would suspect that Kobalt, as with the other saw manufacturers, would rather keep the cost down for all their customers and allow those who want or need an edge guide to purchase it as an accessory.

The edge guides used to come with circular saws, but don't anymore. Kreg makes an edge guide, but a tri-square works for cross cuts, and you can make your own for ripping with directions at This Old House. I made mine from scrap lumber and saved $50 from what you buy in the store. An edge guide seems to take longer to use than something you already have in your toolbox.

I do not know, I did not get one either, you will have to buy one or make one
