Does this work with the prior 20volt battery?


No. The use of a 20 volt battery will cause damage to both the charger and the battery (it will overheat).

I think kobalt only has one type of battery just different sizes. They all should work in everything. It's a pretty good little saw

I do not have a 20 Volt unit, however i believe it is safe to say that the batteries are NOT interchangeable. If they were, I suspect the 20 Volt battery would seriously degrade performance as well as tool life of the 24 volt tool.

No, the batteries for the 20v/18v product will not be compatible with the 24v tools, as the mechanism to attach the battery to the tool is completely redesigned.
