Hello Sandy, Thank you for your question. The Kilz 2 Latex Primer is meant to prime and seal surfaces with light stains. Knots and tannins are a bit tougher to cover and seal, so I would suggest checking out a primer such as out Kilz Premium Primer. Have a great day and happy priming!-- Joanna
