Is this compatible with door openers that have smart technology already built in?

It will NOT work with the HD900, I found that out the hard way. The wall mounted controller that's hardwired to the garage door is the problem. When I disconnected the wall mount controller, and just had the IRIS connected, everything worked fantastic. Connect the wall mount controller again, and the IRIS will no longer open or close the garage door. But, the other features work. So, as a trade off, I installed a simple garage door opener button for like $8 in place of the wall mount controller and I'm back in business. I lost the motion light and the ability to "lock" the garage door, but in 4 years, I've never even used that feature. And I don't need the night light. I all my remotes are working fine.

I see no issue with why it couldn't.
