Iris Z-Wave 900MHz ISM or ZigBee 2.4GHz ISM ZigBee or Z-Wave Wireless Signal Extender Works with Iris
Does the range extender have a battery backup? What happens if power is out?

The range obviously will vary due to walls and construction... I know four people with a typical 1500 sq ft 1 floor condo to a 2800 sq ft house - both have no issues - I personally use 2 range extenders... Batteries - appear to last at least a year.. Monitoring center - this is a system that is not monitored by humans in a call center - your iris hub communicates with IRIS monitoring computer (who cares where!) and that IRIS computer will call or text you if an issue is detected and you subscribe to the proper plan... There is also an option for a cell phone device to be purchased so that if your local network is down - the IRIS hub can initiate those alarm texts or calls via a cell phone connection.

Extenders do not have battery backup. If power goes out, the devices that do have a battery(cr2) will continue to operate. The hub has a battery backup, but it will last only about an hour. If the router it is connected to does not have power, it will not communicate with the internet. The iris system will continue to operate until its hub shuts off. Devices out of range when the extender goes offline will attempt to connect to the hub and each other in an attempt to talk to the hub. If they cannot they will go into searching mode and may retain some basic function until the hub and extender comes online again. If the hub powers all the way down, then the rest of the system will no longer operate as each device is controlled by the hub. Each device will blink and if it does have a battery will continue to attempt to operate, but without the hub, it will do nothing until the hub comes back online. The other devices have around 100ft range unobstructed as far as I can tell, but improves when you have many iris devices to form a mesh network. Battery life of devices vary depending on usage, temp, and type of device. Most of the smaller devices use the CR2 battery which is good for about a year with average usage. Keypads, sirens and such may have less as they are typed on and have sirens which take some power to use. They last more like 6 months but again, usage does impact it quite a bit. The hub backup battery is only good for an hour. Cameras, your router, smart plugs, exender and some others do not have battery, and so you have to either connect them to a battery backup, or they shutdown on no power. The Hub is the controller and monitoring center. You monitor the hub and it can notify you of everything it is in control of or connected to. The hub connects via Ethernet or a Ethernet bridge to your router/gateway. This allows it to talk to your phone and send alerts that you configure, or call your phone. There is no live monitoring of the service free or premium, but you can have the system call and send alerts to any phone or group of phones.

The Range Extender does have rechargeable backup batteries which allow it to function for about 1 hour during power outages. The range extender is paired with the Iris hub and the Iris system is a user monitored system. For more information or assistance, please reach out to the Iris Support Team at 855-469-IRIS (4747).

I unplugged my Range Extender, and the Iris system was still showing it connected 45 minutes later. I got out my screwdriver and took it apart. (Yeah, Yeah, voided warranty) It in-fact DOES have a replaceable, and rechargeable, battery inside. I unplugged the battery from the PC Board, and the Range Extender was no longer shown connected to my system (took about 5 minutes). After 30 minutes of the battery being disconnected from the PC Board, I reconnected the battery, (did NOT plug into AC power) and the range extender connected to the system again within 3 minutes. The battery fully discharged after about one total hour of being unplugged from the AC. I plugged the unit back into AC power, and it became functional within 2 minutes. If this helps --> On the back of my unit is says MODEL REP800. But on the package it came in it says MODEL REP901.

Was this Answer Helpful ?No, the range extender doesn't have a battery backup, if the power were to go out your range extender would be powered off until the power was restored to the unit. You could however fix this issue if you plugged your range extender into a UPS. The range of the different sensors depends upon the construction of your house but ideally they transmit 20 to 30 meters. The batteries of the sensors tend to last multiple years as they send out very low power and very little data. The Hub connects to the internet via a router you have hooked into your high speed internet connection. There is no monitoring center. This is a home automation system, not a monitored security system.
