Specs say plastic for the grind chamber material. Is this a mistake?


The plastic grind chamber is correct. There is a difference between the grinding components that actually do the grinding and the chamber(the enclosure, where the grinding takes place). I am replacing an older 555ss with an evolution plus. Both units have s.s. Grinding parts as well as s.s. grind chambers! Why? These units cost more because they're extremely heavy duty. If you're just an average user the models with a plastic grind chamber, and 3\4 hsp. should be fine. By the way, my 555 is 18 years old, and is getting noisy, and hasn't really failed. But my wife wants it replaced. "Happy wife, happy life" '

This has to be a mistake. The insinkerator site states it is stainless steel.
