The default option is to have the fan hanging from a maybe 3-4 inch extender, but it also comes with a low profile adapter that brings the fan up closer, almost flush with the ceiling.

Yes, flush mounting is possible with the Georgetown. I especially wanted my fan flush mounted but my husband didn't realize this until *after* he'd installed it. I wanted to see the decorative metal against a white ceiling.
