Thanks for your question! If you do not have an electrical/outlet box, then yes we strongly recommend you installing a fan brace or bracket that can support the weight of your fan. Incorrect install could possibly lead to the fan falling or injury. Whatever type of fan brace or bracket you use must support the fan weight of at least 70 pounds.

No I didn't brace it. The fan is not very heavy.
