can I run this in a garage or does it have to be outside?

Hello, Do not run the generator inside a garage under any circumstances. This cannot be done safely. It will also damage the generator, as open airflow is necessary to cool the generator. However, running the generator under a covered roof or awning without walls with plenty of airflow around the generator would be fine.
