12 VDC. I'd check directly with Watchdog's support group on the required specs. Also, a sealed battery will not work with the pump controller's water level sensor -- and cause constant audible alarms.

12V, and I am currently using a deep cycle marine battery right now. Main pump died and the marine battery seems to be holding up fine.
