is it safe to run a generator on a wood deck outside?? or on the grass?

We would recommend providing clearance on all sides of the generator and placing it on a non-combustible surface for safe operation. However, please know that we always recommend following local codes; some local codes require grounding the unit in one way or another, and a deck would not provide this needed ground. Moreover, as the generator gets relatively hot, we would recommend ensuring that all debris and/or combustible materials be cleared from the immediate vicinity of the generator’s placement. Due to carbon monoxide emissions, we would recommend ensuring that the unit is kept a safe distance from windows while operating, which would be a minimum distance of 5 feet.
