Can over-the -range microwaves be successfully installed into an existing space where my old m/w was? Home Depot says NO

Most over-the-range microwaves are one width: 29 7/8". If you previously had another oven installed there, you should be just fine. Height above the range may be a concern; check it out. My guess is you're good to go.

All 30" over-the-range microwaves are approximately the same width, and are designed to fit into a 30" wide cabinet opening (the height and width may vary slightly). If you have tile on the back wall under the microwave, check the height of the new model ( PVM9005SJSS is 17 5/16"H). Each microwave comes with the mounting hardware (mounting bracket, screws, exhaust adapter), top and rear templates, and installation instructions needed to make installation a simple process. This makes choosing a replacement microwave easy. I don't know why not. This microwave fits over a standard 30" stove and hangs from a standard 12" or 15" tall wall cabinet. Just because there was one there before shouldn't make a bit of difference.
