1 diode per reflector cap.

There are no extra diodes as each light is in itself a diode. They are in a series string arrangement with two LEDs paired together in opposing polarity in each segment. This way in the positive AC direction one will light and negative the other lights. If one diode goes out the reverse direction of the good one of the two will keep the rest of the string lighted.
