what is dual flush technology

It makes your toilet flush with two levels of water output. #1 for when you are not sitting down, and #2 for when you sit. #1 uses a very small flush amount and fills the bowl without much of a rinse action. #2 is either a full flush or slightly smaller than a factory designed flush amount that goes through a full flush and rinse cycle. Basically in a normal multi person household it cuts the water bill by a not insignificant amount depending on the style and age of your toilet. I installed one in a 75 year old antique toilet that had a 3 gallon tank, and I was able to set it for a .75 gallon #1 flush, and a 1.5 gallon #2 flush. I did it on another toilet in my house and my water bill dropped from $250 per quarter to $190 over the course of a year, and now that this one is in, I expect it to drop to around $100 as this toilet is used about 2 times as much as the other...
Was this Answer Helpful ?Dual flush allows for using less water in toilet flushing. When flushing only liquids use the half flush, when flushing solids use the full flush.
Was this Answer Helpful ?The concept is that liquids flush with less water - solid with more. Handle goes up for one -down for the other. It is supposed to save water. That is the concept..... in reality it is junk!! Don't waste your money or time!! I have never commented on anything on Lowes until I had to deal with this - it's such a piece of junk everyone should know!!
Was this Answer Helpful ?As far as I know it's basically two separate flushes. Half flush: small amount of water for peeing Full flush: full amount of tank water for stuff. You can buy the toilet like this or install it yourself on the one you already have.
Was this Answer Helpful ?The dual flush technology is supposed to control how much water is used to flush liquids vs solids. ie less water for liquids and more for solids.

Was this Answer Helpful ?Dual Flush technology is an innovative approach to saving water and reducing water bills. Such systems are designed to use the right amount of water depending on need – partial flush for liquids and full flush for solids. Since the majority of flush are for liquid waster only, the savings can really add up. Such designs have been in use for many years in water conscious Australia and other parts of the world but are only just now coming to North America. In places such as North America where almost 50% of the toilets still being used in the U.S. and Canada are 3.5 gpf or greater, Dual Flush technology can really enable significant water savings. And although such water saving potential is higher in 3.5 gpf or larger toilets, there are still benefits to using Dual Flush technology in 1.6 and 1.28 gpf toilets without sacrificing flushing performance whenever needed. In the case of the Fluidmaster Duo Flush® conversion system, the user just pulls up for a half flush and pushes down as usual for a full flush, helping to avoid any errant flushes by those unfamiliar with dual flush.
