Is the front axle removable?

The front wheels are not removable due to its overall working design. Adding a cordless/electric weed-eater to your collection will fix the close-in work.

They are not removable and you would not want to remove them. They determine the cutting height. The mower has a slim profile on the left side to make edging easier.

No. They support the weight of the mower. cutting depth is adjusted wuth the front wheels. A weeder is still neded for the angles and tight spaces.

No, they are what hold it and set the cutting height. Fiskars desighed it so it cuts close on the left side but not front. Although I can bump it up to a fence post or telephone pole in the center between the wheels.

the front wheels are used to adjust the height of the blades. Removing them would only allow you to cut at the lowest setting. The reel does sit in front of the rear wheels, so one side of the machine allows you to edge along a straight path.

I just looked at my Fiskars reel mower to determine this. It looks like technically speaking, it is possible to remove the front wheels by removing the entire axle, which would also remove the entire height adjustment assembly. However, I do not believe the mower would be operational like this. The front axle is what holds the reel slightly above the ground. The back wheels do not do this, nor does any other part of the mower. If the reel actually touches the ground, I believe it would be impossible to move properly. That being said, my experience of this mower is that it has the same or better maneuvering than a traditional gas powered mower of comparable size. You shouldn't have any problem you wouldn't encounter with any other mower. Perhaps if your yard is very tiny, you wouldn't have enough room to get full momentum going. But in that case I would recommend you save some money and just use a string trimmer for the whole yard.

The front wheels are NOT removable but if you have a weed eater you'll be fine. You can't even get close to a fence with a gas engine mower.

No sorry. The Fiskars momentum push reel mower is designed to be a four wheel reel mower. You can not take off the front axel. I do not recommend it. Plus you can not take it off because it is part of the front steel mower mold which holds the blade in place. Try cutting up again the fence horizontally following the fence.

The mower does a nice job of cutting pretty close to the edge. Personally, I'd recommend spraying roundup along the bottom of your fence to give you a couple inches of space to work with. The mower will then easily cut up to the edge. The Fiskars does appear to be longer from the handle bars to the blades than others, but I have a small yard with fence/walls on 3 sides and have no problems maneuvering.

I don't know if the wheels come off, but I can get pretty close to the edge (it tells you to use the left side of the mower for edge work, since it gets closer). I don't have to trim along landscaping edges, but I do have to trim along the fence line, like I did with my gas-powered mower.
