Does the mail carrier need a key to deliver mail?


Depends on the mailbox type - ganged mailboxes (the ones that cluster a few mailboxes together) are opened by the USPS with a postal key. The postal key opens the entire front panel of the mailboxes (and not the individual doors). The mail carrier controls that key. The residents control their individual mailbox, keys and locks.
