How does the voice alert work, and can it be inactivated?

Hi LWB524, The voice alerts on the First Alert Smoke Alarm Model SM100V-AC provide clear audio notifications about the type of danger and its location. Here's how they work: During an Alarm: The alarm will emit a loud, repeating horn pattern (3 beeps, pause, 3 beeps) and a voice alert will announce the danger and its location, e.g., “Warning, evacuate smoke in [Location, example: ‘Basement’]. Evacuate.” Low Battery Warning: If the battery becomes low or is missing, the voice alert will say, “Replace battery in [Location, example: ‘Basement’],” repeated every 5 hours. Malfunction Signal: If the alarm is not operating properly, the voice alert will say, “Detector error in [Location, example: ‘Basement’], please see manual,” repeated every 5 hours.  End of Life Signal: When the alarm reaches its end of life, the voice alert will say, “Detector error in [Location, example: ‘Basement’], please see manual,” repeated every 5 hours.  Testing the Alarm: When testing the alarm, the voice will say “Testing,” followed by the horn sounding 3 beeps, pause, 3 beeps. The voice will then announce, “Warning, evacuate smoke in [Location, example: ‘Basement’]. Evacuate.” Silencing the Alarm: When the alarm is silenced, the voice will say, “Horn silenced. Detector active”. The voice alerts are designed to provide clear instructions and location information during emergencies, making it easier for occupants to respond appropriately. The voice alerts on the First Alert Smoke Alarm Model SM100V-AC cannot be disabled, however we can recommend you a different model without voice alerts.
