What is the recommended testing?


I would test each time I change the battery, using the advice that it's prudent to change the battery each time you reset your clocks for daylight savings time (spring AND fall). Push the test button with the old battery still in the unit, then again with the new battery. If it works both times, it's probably in good health. Check regulations or local codes before pitching one out. Some contain a small radio-active component.
