First Alert BRK Hardwired (with Battery Backup) Ionization Interconnected Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector
How do we dispose of the smoke detectors if we are replacing them? Do we just throw them in the regular trash disposal? Are they recyclable? Thank you

Hi Mollie, ionization alarms contain an extremely small amount of radiation, and some municipalities will not accept them in the waste stream. First Alert has a complimentary disposal program for up to 4 intact ionization smoke detectors (postage not included). If you have more than 5 detectors, we can help you dispose of them for a small fee. We dispose of ionization detectors as required by law and recycle components from the alarms, when able. Certain components cannot be recycled due to flame-resistant additives in the plastic. For detailed information on our disposal program, please contact First Alert Customer Support at 1 (800)-323-9005. - Maria
