Is it food safe?


I wouldn't use it for pancake batter. But (per Cookie, above) WRAPPED foodstuffs should be just fine. It's likely as safe as your cabinets...

I guess so, haven't tried, just put in dried foods, in containers or their own bags or boxes, and put the lid on the container, it will work, I think

Anything that is acceptable for food usage has a government symbol on it saying so. My blue Lowe's bucket does not have that symbol but they do have a white one, I think, that has that symbol.
