If your Encore Azalea Autumn Carnation looks dead after the winter, there are a few steps you can take to assess and potentially revive it. Start by gently scratching the bark of the branches to check for green tissue just beneath the surface; green indicates that the branches are still alive. If you find green, the plant may recover. Prune away any dead or damaged branches. Give it time and proper care – water the plant regularly but avoid waterlogging the soil. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer formulated for acid-loving plants in the spring. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and protect the roots. With patience and care, your azalea may bounce back and start showing signs of new growth. If you don't see any green tissue or signs of life, it may unfortunately be dead, and you might need to consider replacing it.
