No. Red light on only when I connected white wire to lower outlet screw, and then on all the time.

Your in luck, because this pilot lighted switch can be wired in a pilot on with switch on "or" pilot off with switch on. It's a good switch for your attic use or out of sight light. I was only able to find it in a white only. In a flip or toggle style to go with other switch's you may have ganged together. Includes a wiring diagram.
