im looking for fine finish trim not high volume how much control can i get

HVLP is designed for fine finishes. It's a high volume of air, not finish, that produces well atomized finishes. With this unit I can draw a line a 1/4" wide with almost zero overspray, all the way up to about 8" wide with minimal overspray. By the way, the 3900 comes with a fine finish needle, which can be added to the 2900 by calling customer service.

If the trim is installed you will need to prep a bit more and be comfortable with it's production. If it's not installed it will work great. Set them up on saw horses and go.

Get the 3900. It has both the "painting" needle but also the "fine finish" needle which is what you need to get that fine furniture quality finish. I can get down to a 1/2" wide pattern and up to about 8" wide with this system. Easy to use and clean up.

This system gives you the most control and highest transfer efficiency. With this gun I can spray a 1/2" wide pattern all the way up to about 8".
