how many bags of paver base would i need for a 10 by 12 patio

10 x 12 = 120 sq ft. If you make 4 inch thick base, you need 92 bags and if you make 2 inch thick base you will need 46 bags.

Then your pavers go on top of the sand, once you've properly compacted and leveled each layer. That being the case, you would need 4 inches per square foot. Your footage is 10x12=120 sq ft or 17,280 square inches (144 square inches in a square foot 12x12). 17,280 times 4 is 69,120 cubic inches. Since there's 12x12x12=1728 cubic inches in a cubic foot, you get your cubic footage using 69,120 / 1728 = 40 cubic feet. So you need 40 cubic feet. I don't know the size of a bag. I'm thinking it's about half a cubic foot. If that's correct, you'll need 80 bags. But please be sure to check the bag size yourself to make sure.

This bag is 0.5 cubic feet, which covers 6 sq ft at a 1" depth. Your 10' x 12' area = 120 sq f. To cover this area with just a 1" depth of paver base: 120 sq ft / 6 sq ft (bag's capacity) = 20 bags of this product. Then to actually account for the full 4" depth: 20 x 4 = 80 bags. Multiply that by the bag's cost, and you have your paver base $$.
