Hello. Thank you for your question. I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing an issue with your Delta 19922-SSSD-DST Faucet. EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber) is a type of durable rubber widely used in a variety of plumbing applications, particularly for water hoses. However, it can start to degrade when exposed to water with high levels of chloramine (chloramine is a byproduct of treating water with chlorine and ammonia to make it drinkable). When it does degrade – and it’s a highly unusual event – small amounts of black particles may show up in the water. While finding black particles in your water is unpleasant, EPDM has been tested for compliance with NSF 61, a national standard for ensuring the safety of materials used in making faucets, hoses, and other products that carry potable water. Delta is confident that the existence of black particulate does not present a health hazard. However, as previously mentioned, we know that finding particulate matter in one’s drinking water can be unsettling. We would be more than happy to help you with this. Please feel free to call, email, or message us on social. Best regards, Rosanna Phone: 1-800-345-3358 | Email: customerservice@deltafaucet.com | Facebook/Twitter: @deltafaucet
