Is the 1/2" bit tapered for a 3/8" chuck. It looks like it may be.


While the bits aren't tapered, the 1/2" bit has a 3/8" drive shank. Moreover the bits down through roughly 3/16" have three drive flats on each shank that mate with the jaws of the chuck.

The larger bits (half inch, etc) have 3/8 inch drive shanks. Those from roughly 3/16" and larger also have drive flats on the shanks so as to avoid turning in the chuck.

No, the DWA1181 bits are not tapered.
