Can the trailer be used with the gate down, so that you can transport longer items

I cut a 12” x 12” hole in the tailgate screen in order to slide 2x4x12’ lumber then simply lashed it down front and rear. No problem.

Use a turnbuckle with a hook/closed loop to hook onto the pin on the trailer and hole in the ramp. You can then adjust the tailgate to any height.

Varing answers on this question. Some say yes and some say no way. I see different answers to most of these questions. I guess it is possible that question answerers are thinking of different model trailers!!!!

The gate can be removed for hauling items over 8' long. Just release the locking pins, lean it away from the trailer a few inches, and slide it to the left on its hinges. It's heavy, so pay attention. I think the sense of the question is, does it lay flat like a pickup truck's tailgate. It does not. It has only two positions: Up and locked for hauling, and down as a ramp.

The gate can be folded down into the bed of the trailer. However, it will not fit flat on the bed of the trailer, it will be elevated about 2-3 inches. You will want to put some type of support under the gate so any weight on top of it will not cause extra stress on the hinges for the gate.

I would say no. The gate is very hard to remove and will not lay flat in the full-forward position.
