The 5' x 8' is the inside area of the trailer floor .The tongue , which is about 3' is not added for the length as in a travel trailer .

the box of the trailer is 5'x8'

Interior dimensions of the box are 5'x8' almost exactly. You get MAYBE another inch in length because of the hinge on the tailgate. Overall length, closed tailgate to the tip of the coupler is about 136''. The tailgate is 38.5'' high. Hub to hub width is right about 75''.
